GLASSES STYLE TIPS

Top five style tips for the modern glasses-wearing woman

Check out our TOP FIVE fool-proof style tips for the modern glasses-wearing woman to help you rock your specs at all times.

1. Keep your earrings small (but don't skip them altogether)

Any long, dangly or statement earrings will compete with your frames and you run the risk of overwhelming your face. Instead, stick to dainty pieces that will add just a touch of polish without being too distracting. Little studs or huggies will help bring your look together, delicately.

2. Coordinate jewellery metals to the colour of your glasses

When it comes to your face, colour coordinating your glasses and jewellery is important.

  • If you have brown or tortoise frames, keep with gold jewellery.

  • If you have silver, clear or cool-toned glasses, stick to silver or stones.

  • If you have black specs, anything goes!

3. Downsize any other accessories

You want to avoid creating a look that is too busy. Instead of opting for a large floppy hat, stick to smaller-brimmed hats that sit off your face (say, a fedora) and sleek hair accessories (maybe just a simple barrette) to keep locks out of the way. This is true for both eyeglasses and sunglasses.

4. Styling your hair and make-up

After a look that's perfect for both day and night? Go heavier with your eyeliner and mascara, then choose a light coral or peach tinted lip balm.

Let a daring lip colour, like a glossy crimson or powerful pink, steal the show. A pop of bright colour on the lips helps to balance out a heavy frame.

For an ultra-feminine and sophisticated look, keep your make-up simple and precise - think softly tinted lips with lightly defined eyes. Add a high bun for a quick and easy way to look instantly put together. Or loosely curl your hair (or at least the ends) and pin a few strands back off your face.

If you have a fringe, keep the focus on the top half of your face by pulling your hair into a bun, and going
with bold eyebrows, layers of mascara, and dark eyeliner.

5. Strategically apply your mascara

You want to apply more at the roots of your lashes and ease up on the tips. Swipe on your first coat as you normally would. Then, for your second coat, wiggle the wand at the base of your lashes and pull out - not up through the lashes. This way you are framing your eyes and you’ll also be less likely to have your lashes poke the insides of your frames all day.
